Q: Can my horse wear them all day?
Yes - most horses comfortably wear fly boots throughout the day in fly season. Remove daily to let legs breathe and check for rubbing or sweat build-up, especially in humid weather.
Q: Can they help with Queensland Itch and sensitive horses?
They can assist as part of a Queensland Itch management routine by reducing midge bites on the lower legs — a key trigger zone for inflammation and itching. For very itchy horses, treat irritation first so they don’t rub the boots off.
Q: Can I leave fly boots on overnight?
Fly pressure usually drops at night, so daytime use is often enough. If insects remain active overnight where you live, you can leave them on - just remove daily for checks and to air the legs.
Q: How do I clean and care for them?
Brush off dust daily. Rinse when needed and air-dry in shade. Machine wash on gentle at 30°C inside a wash bag with Velcro closed. Avoid high heat or “baking” in the sun to extend lifespan.
Q: How do I keep the Velcro gripping well?
Use a stiff brush to remove hair, grass seeds and debris from the hook side of the Velcro. Clean closures maintain strong hold and help prevent slipping.
Q: How do I ensure the correct fit?
Fit below the knee/hock and above the coronet band so boots don’t interfere with movement or touch the ground. Fasten firmly but not tight - you should fit a finger under each strap. Supervise first few wears and adjust if needed.
Q: When should I avoid using fly boots?
Avoid using over open wounds or active skin infections. Be cautious in deep mud or burr-heavy paddocks where mesh can clog. If your horse becomes irritated or starts rubbing, remove, clean and re-fit.
Safety Note: Introduce fly boots gradually and monitor fit and behaviour. Use only in safe environments where horses can be checked regularly.

By: Angela on 14 September 2025I have loved these boots for a some time, they do the job and stay in place but they have become even better! Now with extra sturdy Velcro tabs which makes putting them on and (more impressively) taken them off really quick and easy.

Perfect solution for special Horse
By: Debby Cheeseman on 10 March 2025We have a special horse with 4 white socks. He looks amazing, but the down side is, the sun plays havoc with his sensitive skin. He suffers from photosensitivity. The sun causes a terrible skin condition that we need to be extra vigilant as a preventative. These boots tick the boxes. Not only, they shelter his legs from the UV rays, they also keep flys at bay. These boots work for us, and are at a realistic price.

Best Mesh Boots on the Market! For me ♡

They are super comfortable to my horses,they fit perfectly a 15.3hh & 16.3hh Horses. I tried so many on the market, from expensive to really expensive and none ticked all the boxes for my horses. I use them as protection from insects and sticks,I have lots of gum trees and my horses gallop and play quite alot and would always get scarps or small tears from sticks. I can't pick up every single stick,so I was looking for mesh breathable protective boots and these are my go to boots.They are perfect for covering scrapes,cuts or any injuries from the elements and tremendously helps the cleaness of wounds and the lower limb. I highly recommend these mesh boots,I've even colour coordinated there rugs to match the boots. ☆☆☆☆☆
