Delzani 100% Australian Sheepskin Girth Sleeve - Natural Comfort to Help Reduce Girth Rubs

The girth is one of the hardest-working contact points on your horse - and one of the most common places for rubs to start. The Delzani Sheepskin Girth Sleeve adds a soft, natural layer between girth and skin, made from 100% Australian sheepskin that cushions, breathes and draws moisture away from the girth area while you ride.

It simply slips over your existing girth like a tube, so there's no new girth to buy. Ideal for sensitive-skinned horses, freshly clipped coats, horses coming back into work, or any horse prone to girth rubs over a long ride, lesson or comp day.

Why Riders Choose the Delzani Sheepskin Girth Sleeve

  • 100% Australian Sheepskin - natural wool pile on the skin, not synthetic fleece
  • Soft Cushioning - helps reduce friction and girth rubs
  • Naturally Breathable - lets heat escape during work
  • Moisture-Absorbing Wool - draws sweat away from the skin
  • Slip-On Tube - fits over your existing girth
  • Removable - slides off for cleaning
  • Two Lengths - 600mm and 800mm
  • Black or White - everyday or comp-ready

Pro Tip - Not All “Sheepskin” Girth Covers Are Sheepskin

Many girth covers sold as “sheepskin” or “fleece” are actually synthetic, or knitted wool on a polyester backing. They look similar on the shelf, but they don't perform the same against your horse's skin:

  • Genuine sheepskin - natural wool pile that springs back, breathes and absorbs moisture into the fibre
  • Synthetic fleece - soft at first, but can flatten with use and tends to hold sweat against the skin
  • Knitted wool fabric - wool content, but a thinner, flatter layer than a sheepskin pile

The Delzani girth sleeve is 100% Australian sheepskin - the real thing. Its natural crimp keeps the pile cushioned ride after ride, and the wool lets heat escape while drawing moisture away, helping keep the girth area drier and more comfortable through a long session.

Material & Construction
Made from 100% Australian sheepskin, formed into a tube that slips over your girth to add a soft, breathable layer between the girth and your horse's skin. The natural wool pile cushions the contact area, helps spread pressure more evenly, and absorbs moisture during work.
Choosing Your Length
Available in 600mm and 800mm. As a general guide, the 600mm suits shorter girths such as dressage and monoflap girths, while the 800mm gives fuller coverage on longer GP and jumping girths. The sleeve should cover the section of girth in contact with your horse's belly and behind the elbows - measure your girth between the buckle ends before ordering, and choose the length that covers this contact area without bunching at the buckles.
Care Instructions

After each ride: allow the sleeve to dry fully before its next use, then brush out dirt, hair and dried sweat with a soft brush.

Washing: hand washing is recommended. Use cool water and a wool or sheepskin wash. If machine washing, use a gentle cold wool cycle only. Do not use hot water, bleach or biological detergents.

Drying: gently squeeze out excess water – do not wring. Reshape the sleeve and lightly stretch it to length while damp to help prevent shrinkage, then dry in the shade. Never tumble dry, and keep away from direct sun and heaters, which can harden the skin.

Once dry: brush the wool through to lift and restore the pile.

Common Rider Questions (FAQ)

Q: Will a sheepskin girth sleeve stop girth rubs?
A:
It helps reduce friction and rubbing by adding a soft, breathable layer between the girth and skin. Rubs can also come from a poorly fitted saddle or girth, so check fit first if your horse is already rubbing.

Q: Is this genuine sheepskin or synthetic?
A:
Genuine – 100% Australian sheepskin. It isn't synthetic fleece or knitted wool fabric.

Q: Which length do I need, 600mm or 800mm?
A:
The 600mm generally suits shorter dressage and monoflap girths; the 800mm suits longer GP and jumping girths. Measure your girth and choose the length that covers the belly contact area without bunching at the buckles.

Q: Will it fit my girth?
A:
The sleeve slips over most standard girths like a tube. Very wide, heavily shaped or anatomic girths may be a tight fit.

Q: Can I machine wash it?
A:
Hand washing is recommended to keep the sheepskin soft and in shape. If you do use a machine, choose a gentle cold wool cycle, never tumble dry, and reshape the sleeve while damp.

Q: Is it suitable for freshly clipped or sensitive-skinned horses?
A:
Yes. Clipped coats and sensitive skin have less natural protection at the girth, which is exactly where a soft sheepskin layer helps most.

Q: Black or white?
A:
White is the classic choice for comps and dressage; black is practical for everyday riding and shows less dirt between washes.
